A First Look at the Hyatt Ziva Cancun

One of the unique events that we got to attend at the TMTC Summit in October was a cocktail party/preview of the new Hyatt Ziva in Cancun. This lavish, family-friendly property impressed us with its dining options and its clean, classic style.

The beachfront all-inclusive resort in Cancun’s Hotel Zone was formerly Dreams Cancun, and since June, has undergone a multi-million dollar renovation. There are a total of 547 suites across two buildings, which are known as the Pyramid and the Tower.

Guests are welcomed into a spacious and pristine lobby, which leads to an open-air, pavilion-style stairway with views of the main pool area, and past that, the Caribbean. Couples seeking an adults-only refuge will love the Club Rooms, which are located in the Tower section.

The property includes three infinity pools total, including an adults-only rooftop pool. For younger resort-goers, the KidZ Club offers kids ages 4-12 their own water park and treehouse.

The Delphinus Experience at Hyatt Ziva Cancun will also appeal to budding marine biologists. A lagoon with continuously flowing ocean water on one side of the Pyramid building will be the home of the Ziva’s dolphins. Guests will be able to swim with dolphins in safe atmosphere, plus the resort will be able to offer a select number of Dolphin View rooms.

While I had a lot of questions about the Dolphin View rooms (Would they be noisy? What is to stop rebellious youngsters from tossing their breakfast into the dolphin pool?), many of the travel agents I was with exclaimed that their kids – or their clients’ kids – would absolutely love it.

Craft beer is somewhat of a rarity among all-inclusive resorts, but those who love unique brews will feel right at home here. There is a microbrewery, Tres Cervezas, and a brewmaster on site at Ziva. Not only can you enjoy a pint of Ziva’s in-house beers, but you can make your own!

The brewery is one of 17 restaurants and bars at Ziva. They include an American-style diner called Chevy’s, a beachfront grill called Tradewinds, and for those with a serious sweet tooth, there’s Pasteles, a dessert parlor.

On our FAM, we sampled bite-sized versions of dishes that will be prepared in each of the restaurants. Across the board, the food impressed in flavor and in presentation.

Other than the onsite Dolphin Encounter, the Ziva Cancun offers the standard activities like spa treatments, snorkeling, tequila tastings and nightly entertainment.

The Hyatt Ziva Cancun feels like a very grown-up resort, but with the kid-friendly features, it’s an all-inclusive that promises to appeal to both couples and families. Due to its proximity to the nightlife in downtown Cancun, it also has a lot of potential for girls’ weekends, and bachelor/bachelorette parties. From our preview, it was very apparent it will be excellent for foodies of all ages!
