Travel agents know that the first step to planning a dream vacation is qualifying their clients to determine their unique needs and wants. Part of that process is matching clients to the travel supplier that can best accommodate their wishes. When working with LGBTQ travel clients, there are a few more factors to consider. You must consider how your client will receive the brand, but also how the brand will receive your client. Luckily, there are suppliers out there dedicated to serving the LGBTQ travel community.
Out Adventures is a relatively new travel supplier. Founded in 2008, they are dedicated to providing unique tours for LGBTQ travelers. They focus on supporting the local communities where they travel and leaving a small environmental footprint. Out Adventures’ intimate group sizes of 16 to 40 people are ideal for millennial clients who are looking to travel sustainably and connect to the local culture. They provide travel to a variety of destinations, including places like Antarctica and Chile.
RSVP Vacations focuses on yearly curated cruises with suppliers like Holland America, MSC Cruises, and Avalon Waterways. RSVP Vacations understands that safety is a top priority for their clientele, and they, “carefully research all ports and final destinations to ensure that they are gay-friendly.” They also offer accommodations to assist travelers with special needs, creating a truly inclusive experience.
While the majority of clients for Out Adventures and RSVP Vacations are LGBTQ men, Olivia is exclusive to lesbian guests. They also offer one “friends and family cruise” per year that is open to all. Olivia takes guests all over the world, from Alaska or Iceland to Cuba or the Caribbean. Working with cruise lines like Holland America, Paul Gauguin, and Azamara Cruises, guests will always have the benefit of a full charter. Olivia also buys out entire resorts, offers adventure packages, and does honeymoons for clients who prefer to stay on land.
Other notable suppliers for LGBTQ-focused travel include Brand G Vacations and Atlantis Events. Each supplier has something different to offer, so it is important to qualify your client for the type of experience they want.
Outside of immersive LGBTQ vacations, there are many popular travel brands that support the LGBTQ community and strive to foster an accepting atmosphere. Even if your clients haven’t considered this, don’t be afraid to bring it up during the qualifying process. Groups or families with an LGBTQ member will appreciate your efforts to find a gay-friendly experience. In addition, allies of the LGBTQ community might prefer their vacation dollars go to a brand with likeminded values.

Most travelers consider safety when picking their next destination, but this is especially crucial for the LGBTQ community. When booking for your clients, it’s always a good idea to check the destination on the U.S Department of State website. Search by country and view “Local Laws & Special Circumstances.” As a travel agent, it’s your job to educate your clients on what to expect while traveling. They will appreciate the extra effort you made to ensure they are comfortable, prepared, and ready for the experience of a lifetime!
